Accepted Answer

It can, if done incorrectly. High pressure aimed directly into paver joints will erode polymeric sand or regular jointing sand. We use a wider fan tip, lower pressure, and a downward angle that cleans the surface field without blasting the joints. If joint sand is already depleted, we can refill it with polymeric sand as part of the same job.

Fresh oil stains respond well to degreaser pre-treatment followed by hot-water pressure washing. Old, deeply penetrated stains from years of parking are harder — cleaning will lighten them significantly but may not eliminate them entirely. We assess stain age and depth during our initial walkthrough and give you a realistic expectation before we start.

Is it safe to power wash asphalt?

Yes, with the right pressure setting. Asphalt needs lower PSI than concrete — typically 1,200 to 1,800 PSI — to avoid dislodging surface aggregate on older or weathered driveways. We never apply the same high-pressure setting to asphalt that we would use on concrete flatwork.

Sealing is ideally done on a freshly cleaned surface, but the surface must be completely dry first — concrete typically needs at least 24-48 hours, and some porous stone or older concrete needs longer. We can schedule sealing as part of the same project with a return visit, or we can do it same-day on surfaces that dry quickly in good weather.
